Meet Kiana Knolland

A Journey Rooted in Storytelling

Kiana Knolland did not enter storytelling through a traditional path in the entertainment industry. Her understanding of narrative began much earlier—through observing how stories shape perception, influence decisions, and impact lives.

From an early stage, she recognized that whoever controls the narrative often influences the outcome. Whether in media, policy, or public discourse, the way stories are told determines how people and communities are understood. This awareness sparked her lifelong commitment to ensuring that storytelling reflects truth, diversity, and fairness.

Understanding the Power of Narrative

Before pursuing law, Kiana studied Public Relations to better understand the mechanics of communication and perception. She became deeply interested in how narratives move audiences, how messaging shapes culture, and how strategic storytelling can shift power structures.

For Kiana, storytelling has never been just an art form—it is a powerful tool capable of shaping public understanding, influencing policy, and redefining cultural narratives.

Education and Legal Insight

Kiana later pursued a Juris Doctor to understand the legal structures that govern creative industries. Her legal training provided deeper insight into the frameworks that determine how stories are protected, distributed, and commercialized. Through the study of law, she gained expertise in areas that directly impact creative work, including:

This combination of legal knowledge and communications strategy allows her to approach storytelling from both creative and structural perspectives.

From Wichita to Washington, DC

Originally from Wichita, Kiana carried her passion for community and advocacy to Washington, DC, where she earned both her bachelor’s degree and Juris Doctor from Howard University, widely known as “The Mecca.” Her experiences in the nation’s capital provided opportunities to engage with public service, policy, and legal advocacy. Through roles connected to Capitol Hill and the Department of Justice, she gained firsthand insight into how policy decisions influence culture, public narratives, and access to opportunity.

Working at the Intersection of Law, Media, and Culture

Kiana’s professional work now sits at the intersection of entertainment law, storytelling, and cultural strategy. She understands that storytelling does not end when a film or television project is completed—it continues through the campaigns and partnerships that bring those stories to audiences. Her work includes engagement with the legal and strategic frameworks behind:
These elements play a critical role in determining whether diverse stories are successfully amplified and sustained.

Advocacy for Creators and Representation

Across advocacy, public service, and creative industries, Kiana focuses on building systems that protect and empower creators. Her work goes beyond symbolic representation and instead focuses on structural change within the industry.

Her advocacy includes initiatives focused on:

Her goal is to ensure that once diverse voices are visible, they are also legally protected and commercially empowered.

A Vision for the Future of Storytelling

As a candidate for CC:DC Trailblazer Ambassador, Kiana Knolland brings a unique perspective that blends creative vision with legal and strategic insight. She believes that the future of storytelling depends on building systems that support inclusion, protect artistic expression, and expand access to opportunity. Her mission is not simply to highlight diversity, but to help build an industry where representation, ownership, and opportunity are sustainable and equitable. Because storytelling is not only about what we see—it is about who controls the narrative, who benefits from it, and whose voices are empowered to shape the future. Her work includes engagement with the legal and strategic frameworks behind:
